As the one of the Founders and the Creative Director of Science, I've worked on the development of several new consumer and platform brands. Included in that body of work is a range of products and services including Dollar Shave Club, DogVacay, Urban Remedy and most recently This is Ground. It's been a fascinating couple of years of interesting projects that have earned two Webbies and have led to the start of many exciting businesses.

This is Ground has been a deeper focus as of late and has broadened my usual scope of work to include brand development and physical product design. While my core skills are still centered around digital, the creation of this new brand has been an incredible learning experience. Educational from the standpoint of purely telling a brand story from inception to bringing an offering to market off of a personal invention which I've laid out in this post, From inception to Apple store in just one year.

Here's some press based on this new brand: Uncrate, Wired, Esquire, SwissMiss, Apartment Therapy, Today Show, PSFK, Cool Material, Refinery 29, Bless This Stuff, Inside Hook, BLTD, Man of Many, FiftyThree, The Awesomer, KillerStartup, Selectism, Complex Tech, Real Simple, Vouch, and Cool Hunting.

Bio

Mike is a User Experience professional, advisor and entrepreneur located in Los Angeles. With a background in Interaction Design, Visual Design and Product Development, Mike has developed and improved products for over 14 years. His experience in creating multidisciplinary strategies and tactics to solve research, design, and differentiation problems has repeatedly lead to positive results.

Most recently Mike was the VP of User Experience and Design for Myspace. In this role, Mike was at the forefront of developing contextually appropriate methods towards attracting and developing top talent, user research, interface standards and improving the product experience. This served as the foundation for moving the offering from the legacy social network to a social entertainment destination.

The majority of Mike's 14 years of leading companies in the area of User Experience has been in and around Silicon Valley for companies such as Aol, Intuit, TechTV and numerous startups. While he has a global presence in the greater Product Design community, his home and heart is in Los Angeles. He is actively involved with the local startup community as the founder of Twiistup which he sold in 2009 but continues to thrive in LA.
